The University campus is located on top of a beautiful hillside with commanding views of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego coastline. Much of its architecture is inspired by buildings in Spain, built in the same style as nearby Balboa Park. Overlooking Mission Bay, with views of the Pacific Ocean — 15 minutes from downtown San Diego and the San Diego International Airport — the campus is named Alcalá Park to honor San Diego de Alcalá, a Franciscan lay brother canonized in 1588. The campus style is modeled after beautiful 16th century Spanish Renaissance architectural style.
